An experiment using the ash thickness measurement device was conducted.

From August 26 to 28, 2024, an experiment was conducted on the slopes of
Mount Asama, located on the border of Gunma and Nagano Prefectures, using
the ash thickness measurement device “Cinderella.” Cinderella is transported
by a drone and, upon landing, uses a brush to dig through the ash and
measure its thickness. In the experiment, based on the pre-established
investigation plan for an eruption, the drone departed from a location 4 km
outside the crater, considered a safe distance, and flew a long distance of
2 km. Upon reaching the destination, the functionality of Cinderella was
verified.
